Go-Karting Hen Dos: What are they, and how can you organise one?

14 August 2024

Have you been given the monumental task of planning your friends’ hen do? There’s probably a lot of pressure attached to this - it’s the one night she can really let loose and celebrate her upcoming wedding, so it has to be perfect! If the classic options don’t look quite right and you’re looking for some really fun hen do theme ideas, we have an option for you: An indoor go karting hen-do!

This is a great way to get all the brides’ friends engaged in something new, and build excitement for the wedding. This blog will explain why go karting works so well for a hen do, and explain how to plan a go karting hen do.

Let’s go!

Why Go Go-Karting For Your Hen Party?

Go karting might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you’re thinking of good hen do ideas. But a go karting hen do is an exhilarating way to celebrate the impending nuptials. Here are a few reasons why it’s one of the best hen do ideas:

  1. It’s an alternative to the classic “night out” hen do. A lot of hen dos involve a night on the town and drinks flowing until morning - if the bride and bridal party don’t enjoy this or just want something a little different to kickstart the night, go karting is perfect. It gets everyone involved and bonding in a way you’ll never forget.
  2. It’s good for sporty and competitive people. If the bride is already inclined towards more physical activities - if she loves a challenge and an adventure, and absolutely relishes a competition - then she’ll be thrilled with an opportunity to fly around an indoor go-karting track at 40mph and beat all her friends and family in the process.
  3. It’s good exercise. It’s a cliche, but if the bride is a little anxious about fitting into her wedding dress, go karting burns calories and builds muscle all at once - this certainly isn’t the main reason to choose go karting for your hen do, but isn’t it a great perk?
  4. It fills you with adrenaline and endorphins. For a happy hen-do, why not choose an activity that literally makes you happier on a chemical level? The thrill of a race floods your system with adrenaline, and then endorphins and happy hormones as a result. If the bride’s been seriously stressed out with wedding planning, go karting will wash them away.
  5. It fits nicely into a longer itinerary. If you bring your party to one of our indoor venues for a single race, you might be in and out of the building in an hour! This makes it a fun pit-stop on a packed agenda.

It also works as the main event. You have the option to book out your venue for the day, so you can monopolise the track, enjoy additional activities like Putt Club or Laser Combat depending on your location, and order a feast from our food menu.

Go-Karting Hen Do Checklist

If a go karting hen do sounds like a shout, this is how you can go about planning a hen do at TeamSport:

  1. Decide if it’s going to be a surprise or not. Is the bride going to be in the loop when you’re doing the hen do planning? If not, give a lot of thought as to whether this is something she’ll definitely enjoy - you probably know her better than anyone, but check that it matches her expectations for her hen do.
  2. Draw up a guest list. Invite all of the bride’s favourite people - we can accommodate groups of 12-150 at TeamSport, so numbers aren’t an issue! Anyone over the age of 8 can use a go kart, so age isn’t an issue either. If you know any guests who might want to sit out, note that we have spectator areas where they can still cheer the racers on.
  3. Decide the date and budget. Once you have these sorted, figure out which of our 40+ go karting tracks is closest to you and call us to discuss a bespoke package and price and secure your booking.
  4. Book the activities + figure out hen-party extras and games. Make sure any other activities are all booked in, and then think about how you can make this day as special and personalised as possible. Maybe you could make a sash the bride could wear over her racesuit (as long as it fits our clothing requirements - see our What to Wear Go Karting blog for more), or maybe the winner could get the bouquet instead of a trophy?
